19 Charlotte provides plenty of opportunities to ex- periment. September’s calendar includes concerts, festivals, sporting events and the Charlotte Film Festival, creating everything from casual daytime outings to evenings that invite a more polished look. The city’s fashion community is becoming more visible as well. Charlotte hosted its own Met Gala inspired fashion and art experience at the Mint Museum this year, bringing local designers, artists and creatives together for an evening centered on personal expression. Shopping options continue to evolve alongside that creativity. New boutiques and resale concepts have opened around the city this year, while established local shops continue giving shoppers alternatives to national retailers. Vintage and secondhand fashion also provide another way to build a distinctive wardrobe without chasing every new trend. A lightweight dress can work with sneakers during the afternoon and a jacket after sunset. Jeans and a simple shirt can become evening ready with better shoes and accessories. A blazer can sharpen an otherwise casual outfit without requiring an entirely different wardrobe. Charlotte style does not need to follow every runway trend to feel current. Personal style works best when clothing fits the person, the occasion and the city around them. Fall will eventually bring cooler mornings and heavier layers to the Queen City.
