January 2022
On Friday, November 12th, Welcome to Rockville brought the heat for its second day in its new location of Daytona Beach, Florida. With a killer collection of bands from yesterday and today, fans were treat- ed to an incredible show. Taking place in the infield of Daytona International Speedway, the unique location did a fan- tastic job of setting up the events coming later in the evening. Opening up the show was Starset. These guys are a very unique, space-themed band from Columbus, Ohio, that have been making waves with hit after hit for almost a decade. With their unique all- white outfits, the band took the stage for around 35 minutes and gave fans everything they wanted to hear and more. Joined by a cellist and violinist, the band was able to give a unique sound that stayed faithful to their albums while also giving that live music feel. This band had easily the most theatrical show of the day, as all of their songs are based on horror movies. As their outfits, stage props, and screens changed for every song, it was like watching miniature mov- ies that changed every couple minutes. The highlight of the set was during “Hip to be Scared”, when SiriusXM’s Jose Man- gin showed up to be “killed” by American Pyscho’s “Patrick Bateman”, aka lead sing- er Spencer Charnas. With a mixture of new hits such as “The Past is Dead” and old fa- vorites like “The Lines”, the band opened up massive mosh pits. The energy was palpable in the crowd, and the band fed off it as well, which led to a truly memo- rable performance. Rockville 2021, Day 2 Written by Sully Smith 16
