ALBUM REVIEW | Santa Cruz – Bad Blood Rising

Let me start off by saying that I am a huge 80’s Rock fan (still to this day!) so when I read the band bio for Santa Cruz listing Motley Crue & Guns N Roses as influences, I immediately had to take a listen!

I decided to watch the video for “Young Blood Rising” firstly (because I wanted to see these guys for myself) and was immediately overcome with nostalgia from the opening scene (That hair! ?) and left wanting to hear more!

If I had to make a comparison, “Young Blood Rising” would be akin to Skid Row’s “Youth Gone Wild”.  It has that same “rebellious youth” feeling that takes you back to a time of teenage angst, making you want to pump your fist in the air along with the chorus!

I caught a slight GNR influence in the vocals for both “Drag Me Out of The Darkness” and “Breathe”.  The whistling in “Breathe” is a nice touch, and definitely adds to the album’s overall nostalgic feeling.

“Bad Habits Die Hard” is just an overall catchy tune.  Packed with guitar solo’s and a rock/pop vibe, it’s sure to get your foot tapping and will be stuck in your head for days!

The guitars & vocals seem a bit deeper in “Pure Fucking Adrenaline” giving it a more grungy feeling than the rest of the tracks.  It’s a good track to listen to when you want to get “pumped up” and it’s probably my favorite, off the album.

Santa Cruz has managed to bring back that “feel good” rock sound that has been missing from the industry for quite some time now, without “cheesing” it up and I’m very impressed! This album is definitely worthy of a playlist add!!

My Top Tracks:

“Young Blood Rising”

“Drag Me Out of The Darkness”

“Pure Fucking Adrenaline”

About The Band:

Recently named by Rolling Stone as one of “10 New Artists You Need To Know,” Santa Cruz melds Sunset Strip influences of Motley Crue and Guns N’ Roses with elements of modern rock, punk and metal for a wild, unadulterated sound that seethes with sweat and swagger.

Santa Cruz got their start in 2007 and has been on a meteoric rise ever since. The band released two previous albums Screaming for Adrenaline (2013) and Santa Cruz (2015) with Spinefarm Records, which both landed in Finland’s Top 40 with the later taking the #3 spot on the charts. The band has spent the last several years winning over critics and fans across Europe and word is spreading like wildfire to the U.S. The band recently inked a deal with M-Theory Audio, who will release their 3rd record Bad Blood Rising.
