Festival in the Park returns to Freedom Park for its 62nd year, com - bining art, food and music during the final weekend of September. Even familiar neighborhoods feel different when ex - perienced this way. Instead of driving somewhere for one specific purpose, residents can build an entire af - ternoon around an area. Coffee might lead to a market. The market might lead to lunch. Lunch could become an art stop, live performance or unexpected purchase from a local creator. That spontaneity matters. Charlotte is a growing city, but growth means more than buildings and new residents. A city develops per- sonality through the things people actually do there. Markets, festivals, neighborhood gatherings and inde- pendent businesses create opportunities for strangers to share the same spaces. They also give smaller businesses valuable visibility. A Saturday shopper may discover a Charlotte maker they would never encounter through a traditional re- tail trip. Perhaps that is why the new Charlotte weekend feels different. People are not simply looking for somewhere to go. They are looking for something to experience. Sometimes the best Saturday begins without knowing exactly where it will end.
