21 is scheduled to bring a wide collection of food vendors to Charlotte Motor Speedway, adding another major food ex- perience to the city’s calendar. What makes Charlotte inter- esting is that its culinary iden- tity is still being written. A polished dining room can exist alongside a food truck. A neighborhood restaurant can introduce customers to dishes from another country. A chef can reinterpret Southern in- gredients without abandoning their history. That freedom gives Charlotte room to experiment. The city may eventually be- come nationally associated with a particular dish or style of cooking. It does not need to rush the process. For now, Charlotte’s food identity can simply be the collection of people cooking here. Every restaurant opening, family recipe, food truck and neighborhood favorite adds another flavor to the story. And Charlotte is becoming a much more interesting place to eat because of it. Photo by | Stephen Leonardi Photo by | Busenur Demirkan
