A s a model of 25+ years, I’ve noticed a positive change going on in the modeling industry. It is becoming more inclusive and the “standard” of beauty is shifting. There has been a noticeable difference in what it was compared to what it is becoming. Although the industry has often carried a negative stigma, there are plenty of people pioneering to change that. Including myself who will now only participate in shows that are inclusive! Thanks to many stars, designers, and people with a large platform and social media presence (such as Ashley Graham), who are breaking down those barriers. We are now seeing women of all shapes, sizes, and color grace the runways, magazines, and television. The days of models having to be a standard height, age, body type, and mostly white are changing (thank GOODNESS)!!! I believe the goal is to see companies, designers, and the industry using diversity in a genuine way, not just a way to target and market. We want to see more people that are comfortable in their own skin (flaws and all) being welcomed and applauded. We want to see more people with disabilities who have long been fighting their way into the fashionworld to feel included andbeautiful! Only now are we starting to see this change. The truth is, everyone is beautiful in their own way and deserves an opportunity to feel beautiful! As these boundaries start to dissolve, and change continues to take place, we will hopefully continue to see a lot more progress. The end goal is more relatability and less unattainableness. Afterall, inclusion is where the beauty is at! Inclusivity In the Modeling Industry by | Tiffany Lewis 12
