17 Sometimes the experience is sim- ply being somewhere that feels alive. A small room with great music can cre- ate that feeling. So can a neighborhood restaurant where the staff knows regu - lars, a market filled with makers, or a park where people naturally gather. That can happen through something as a host remembering a name or a musician playing close enough to feel part of the room. Details create stories peo- ple repeat later. When a place gives visitors some- thing to talk about, pho- tograph, taste, hear, or participate in, it becomes more than another stop. It becomes somewhere people want to bring oth- ers back to next time too. The strongest places un- derstand what kind of ex- perience they are creating. They give people a rea- son to arrive, but also a reason not to rush away. In a world where conveni- ence keeps pulling people toward home, social spaces have a different challenge. They have to make being there feel better than stay- ing in. Photo by | AS Photography Photo by | Alena Darmel
