As a college student, you wear many hats, and adding on entrepreneur may take some time and responsibility. Here’s how to launch your business. College students founded many famous companies, from Times Magazine to Google, WordPress, Yahoo, and more, so don’t let anyone tell you that you’re too young to be next. If you’re a college student who has a business idea but doesn’t know how to bring it to life, this article is for you. Whether you want to work within the cor- porate world or become your own boss, you should understand the steps toward launching your service or product. By un- derstanding these steps, you’ll have the upper hand in marketing to your audience and keeping them engaged, thus creating a successful brand awareness strategy. Here’s how to launch your business as a college student. Create a Customer Base Starting a business takes work. Beyond having a business idea, do you have a strat- egy, and who is your customer? Before making sales, you have to know to whom you’re selling. This calls for marketing studies and an understanding of who can benefit from your product or service. Once you know your customer, you’re ready to build a prototype. Build Your Prototype You should develop an inexpensive proto- type to test your product or service. For ex- ample, if you’re selling T-shirts, contact a graphic designer who can create the exact shirt design. Then, you can work on your pitch by creating brochures highlighting what makes your T-shirt better than the others. Create a Website and Market to Your Audience Once you’ve successfully created a pro- totype and got good feedback from your target audience or potential investors, you can create a website to start selling your product! Your website should follow the same flow and aesthetic as your prototype, but you should add a few new details, like a live social media feed or a founder’s video. You should also have an option for poten- tial customers to sign up for promotional emails or text messages for future updates on new productions or discounts. Keep Your Audience Engaged Once you have your audience, product, marketing, and website, you’re ready to launch your business. However, once you launch your business, the hard work be- gins. It would help to stay consistent when marketing your business, communicating with your customers, and engaging with potential customers. You can host pop-up shops and discount events or create mar- keting merch to keep your audience en- gaged. Additionally, you can pass out creative vinyl stickers you made to help get your business out there. What college student doesn’t love free stickers or memorabilia? Create special free items to pass out to stu- dents at school to gain more awareness and keep your current customers engaged. Launching your business as a college stu- dent can be difficult, but with dedication and time-management skills, you can launch your business in due time. Remem- ber that some of the greatest businessper- sons of all time were once in your position, so believe in yourself. 9
