I recently had the opportunity to fly to Austin, TX to cover the United States stop on arguably the largest motorcycle race circuit in the world, MotoGP Redbull Grand Prix of The Americas. For those unfamiliar with MotoGP, it features world class motorcycle racers from all over the world, in 3 race categories (Moto3, Moto2, and MotoGP). The circuit travels all over the world to multiple tracks and many different countries. Upon arriving in Austin at Circuit of the Amer- icas, I was absolutely blown away by the sheer size of this race track. CoTA, known for also hosting Formula 1 races every year, is absolutely massive and a magical place. After about an hour of trying to find my way around to the media center, I finally found it and was able to enjoy a nice breakfast, on the house for media members, which was greatly appreciated. They actually fed us 3 times per day, which all the meals were de- licious and satisfying. Every one in the media center was also extremely friendly and accom- modating, which made covering the event a joy. Every race division was action packed and to see the racers in person, flying down the front straight at over 200mph is incredible. The sheer speed and agility of these riders is something that by watching on TV, doesn’t do them jus- tice at all. I normally prefer watching sports on TV but motorcycle racing is something that is breath taking live and in person. The lean angle that these guys reach in the turns on their mo- torcycle’s is gravity defying. The speed that these bikes are flying by really tested my photo abili- ties because if you don’t get the timing just right, you’ll miss the photo. Overall theweekendof nonstop racingwas amaz- ing. Even with shuttles and other transportation around the track, I walked over 45,000 steps to get coverage from all different angles around the track, as there was always something going on everywhere you looked. When the races weren’t happening, there were demo rides from different motorcycle manufactures, all kinds of booths set up and food options galore. If you haven’t been able to attend a MotoGP event before, I highly recommend it. This was an experience that I will remember for the rest of my life and maybe, just maybe, we’ll be back to cover next years race. Visit our site to see the list of winners, teams, and time.
