North Carolina is home to a stunning ar- ray of waterfalls, each offering its own unique beauty and charm. Here are some of the best waterfalls in NC that are worth exploring. First, we would like to bring Looking Glass Falls to your attention. Located near Bre- vard in the Pisgah National Forest, Look- ing Glass Falls is one of the most iconic waterfalls in North Carolina. Cascading over a towering cliff into a picturesque pool below, this waterfall is easily acces- sible from the roadside, making it a pop- ular stop for visitors. Next is one of our personal favorites, Linville Falls. Situated along the Blue Ridge Parkway, Linville Falls is a breathtaking natural wonder that offers several scenic viewpoints for visitors to admire. The waterfall plunges into the Linville Gorge, the “Grand Canyon of the Southern Appalachians,” creating a dra- matic backdrop for hikers and photogra- phers. So, third on our list is Dry Falls. Don’t let the name fool you—Dry Falls is anything but dry. Located in the Nantahala Nation- al Forest near Highlands, this waterfall al- lows visitors to walk behind the curtain of cascading water, providing a unique and immersive experience. A short trail leads to an observation deck with stunning views of the waterfall and surrounding landscape. Crabtree Falls is tucked away in the Pisgah National Forest near the town of Little Switzerland, Crabtree Falls is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. A moderate hiking trail leads to the base of the waterfall, where visitors can enjoy the sight and sound of water tumbling over rocky ledges surrounded by lush forest. Whitewater Falls is one of the highest wa- terfalls east of the Rockies, Whitewater Falls is a must-see destination for waterfall enthusiasts. Located near Cashiers, this impressive waterfall plunges over 400 feet into the Whitewater River, creating a mes- merizing display of natural beauty. Bridal Veil Falls is named for its delicate appear- ance resembling a bridal veil, this waterfall near Highlands is accessible by car, allow- ing visitors to drive behind the cascading water for a truly memorable experience. Surrounded by lush greenery and scenic vistas, Bridal Veil Falls is a popular stop along the Waterfall Byway. And finally, we want to mention Rainbow Falls. Located in Gorges State Park near Sapphire, Rain- bow Falls earns its name from the vibrant rainbow that often appears in the mist created by the waterfall. A moderate hike through lush forest leads to this spectac- ular cascade, where visitors can marvel at its beauty and snap photos of the stunning scenery.
